So recently I had to do a practical
assignment related to college and this post is about that. The topic was as follows---
DESIGN A FURNITURE ITEM WHICH IS MULTIFUNCTIONAL (or with two or
more uses).
My design focused on toddlers and therefore I designed this TODDLER BED WITH A LAMINATE SCRIBBLE BOARD AND BUILT-IN STORAGE.
Homes house memories. Some memories come in tangible forms of
objects, items of clothing, chairs, tables, books. When one lives in a small
space, one of the best ways of gaining more cupboard space is to put less in
the cupboard or have a TODDLER BED, LAMINATE SCRIBBLE BOARD, AND STORAGE.
The French architect Le Corbuisier famously stated that, “The
house is a machine for living in”. I have been inspired by him, as he
emphasized to bear in mind economy in our actions, our household management and
our thoughts; therefore this concept has taken shape of a Toddler bed cum
laminate scribble board cum storage.
In the construction of this furniture, TEAK WOOD has been used as
the base and storage with veneer polish and laminate. BUTT HINGES are used as
the joining method and NYLON casters for mobility. DUNLOP mattress with
upholstered fabric is used for comfort.
The hand tools that used were
- 1 FOOT SCALE,
quarter inch blade
- 16 ounce
finishing hammer
- Set of butt
hinges for the white board
This multifunctional furniture piece
can be used as a single bed for toddlers, a storage space below the bed to keep
the toddler’s toys, clothes, and a laminate white board for the toddler to
scribble on.
Since it measures only 4’3”x1’8”, it
can be compact and placed in any room. The bright red cushioning perfectly
blends with the dark chocolate brown wood.
